SCIENCE WEEK: 'BE MORE SUSTAINABLE' CHALLENGE

Last week marked Science Week in the school with a host of activities to support the 'Be More Sustainable' challenge. All members of the school community were encouraged to find ways to save energy and to be more sustainable. Teachers and students were asked to have a plastic-free lunch, to try vegan or vegetarian lunch options, to be more vigilant of litter and to travel to school in a more eco-friendly and sustainable way. Every day a riddle was posted for staff and students to solve. Well done to the following winners of the daily riddle challenge:

Junior - Bailey Crean, Bjorn Jybaek, Caoimhe Lawlor, Finn Tierney, Adam O'Neill.

Senior - Genevieve Codd White, Oskar Mozdzierski, Seán Higgins, Shane Marah, Patrick Kearney.

Staff - Laura Gill, Niamh McDonald, Martina Griffin, Ceara Noone, Courtney Hosp.

ARTS WEEK

There was a great response to the ‘Ink it Up’ competition during Arts Week. The variety of ideas and range of work produced is a credit to the creativity of the student body in CCM. All entries are mounted on the wall in the canteen. Lunchtime workshops were carried out throughout the week. Students worked together to create a collaborative art piece inspired by the Irish artist Anna Doran. Students also partook in a ceramic workshop where they learned the skills required to throw clay on the wheel and created their own ceramic pieces.

Thank you to all teachers who included Arts Week activities as part of their classes.

TY WALK
On Tuesday, 9th November, all TY students took part in walking the Reservoir in Roundwood. It was part of their training for the upcoming Adventure Journey for the Gaisce award. The weather held up as they took part in the almost 9km walk. The students were all in great spirits and an enjoyable day was had by all.

SENIOR BASKETBALL

Coláiste Chill Mhantáin 35 - Wesley College 63

On Monday, 8th November, CCM U19 played a very strong Wesley College team who dominated the courts from the starting whistle. Coláiste Chill Mhantáin lads played with great spirit throughout and some great scores from Peter Dunne (18pts), Joe Neiland (6pts) and Fionn O'Brien kept CCM in the game . Not a win but a great joy for all to be back on the court!

JUNIOR RUGBY

CCM 20 - EGS 15

The Junior Rugby team played EGS in a training game on Wednesday, 10th November, with twenty-one lads getting the chance to play. In a very open game, CCM scored 4 tries through TJ Kennedy, Luke Dunne (2) and Ciaran Matthews. The game was great preparation for the first round of the Cup in two weeks' time.

SENIOR LADIES' GAA

The senior CCM girls played in their second Leinster game on Monday, 8th November, against Presentation College Carlow . The girls improved greatly from their game the previous week. They were first to score and played well as a team. Despite battling to the final whistle, unfortunately Presentation College were just too strong a side. There were some great performances from Orla Kenny, Kara Doyle, Ria Gregory, Izzy Richardson, Brooke Griffin, Emma Waters, Hollie O'Connor, Claire Sammon and Éabha Mooney. The CCM girls are looking forward to the Wicklow Schools' Blitz on November 19th.
