MOCK EXAMS AND LCA TASK ASSESSMENTS
Best wishes to the LCA students who were assessed last week on their Practical Achievement, General Education and Contemporary Issues Tasks. Good luck, also to our Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Cycle students who are sitting their Mock Exams at the moment. We wish them all the very best.
EUROSCOLA STRASBOURG TRIP
Congratulations to students from Coláiste Chill Mhantáin have been selected to represent the Ireland South Constituency in Euroscola in Strasbourg. Euroscola is an immersive experience where students will witness, first-hand, how the European Parliament operates. The CCM students will join students representing the Dublin and Midlands Northwest constituencies as well as students from every country in the European Union. Students will take seats in the hemicycle for the parliament to debate, negotiate, amend, vote and adopt resolutions on real European issues.

The students were invited to take part after winning a competition where students produced a short video demonstrating how they would convince the Irish public to join the EU back in 1973. Transition Year students, Raphael Balisi Geoghegan, Evan Ferguson, Jonathan Fleming, Nathan Reynolds and Clodagh Byrne, were the main students involved in producing the winning video. Twenty-four students from CCM, together with two teachers, will travel to Strasbourg for the event.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY
On Friday, 27 January, CCM commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day. During the Holocaust, six million Jewish victims and millions of others lost their lives. Countless others' lives were torn apart in the ghettos, in the concentration camps and during the war itself. It is vital that we don't forget the horrors and atrocities that took place or allow ourselves to become complacent as genocide and religious and racial discrimination do still happen today and still affect the lives of millions.
On Memorial Day students stopped to listen to one of the victim's stories and reflected on those who were lost and what we, as individuals, can do moving forward to guard against something like this ever happening again. Our juniors also learned about the forgotten victims of the Holocaust (the Roma and Sinti) in their CSPE lessons, giving them a chance to look at a side of the Holocaust unknown to many.
TY SPINC CLIMB
On Friday Transition Year students travelled to Glendalough to climb the Spinc ridge. It was a tough climb but students were rewarded with breath-taking views not just of the Valley but also of the Wicklow Uplands. It was a very enjoyable day with lots of laughter and sunshine along the way.
GO GIRLS INITIATIVE
All female students from TY, together with a small group of Fifth year girls, took part in the Go Girls Stem initiative on Monday, 30 January. It was a highly enjoyable workshop with the girls learning about the engineering and mechanics of Formula Racing cars.
U17 SOCCER
The U17s boys' soccer team travelled to Greystones to face Temple Carrig in the second round of the shield on Friday, 27 January. The first half was very evenly matched with both sides playing some great football and it was level 1-1 at halftime thanks to a Lorcan Sinnott goal. CCM was very unlucky not to be ahead at halftime through a second Lorcan goal but it was eventually ruled out for offside. The second half started in much the same way before Lorcan scored yet again to finally put us 2-1 ahead. Temple Carrig got back on level terms midway through the second half before adding a third almost immediately to go ahead 3-2. As CCM pushed for the equaliser and threw more players forward we came close on several occasions but were unfortunately struck with several injuries to our defenders and the game was killed off with late goals in the final few minutes. A disappointing defeat for a promising young team that will no doubt improve again next year.
U15 GIRLS' SOCCER
Our U15 Girls' Soccer team took on Gorey CS at home in their first league match on Wednesday, 1 February. This is a young team with many of the girls playing their first-ever competitive match. Unfortunately, on the day the girls came up against a strong Gorey team who had a few previous games under their belt and this experience proved crucial with Gorey securing a well-deserved victory with a particularly strong first-half display, scoring several goals. For our girls it was a great taste of what is to come and this experience will stand to them as they look to improve with each passing game. They showed their spirit in the second half in what was a much closer affair and they can be really proud of their display. There were many positives to take away with very strong performances from Brooke Byrne, Kirsten Hart and Casey Knowles who went in goals at halftime and kept a clean sheet in the second half. We will use this experience and look to improve when we play Coláiste Bhríde Carnew at home in our second game.
