Trip to Lourdes

On Saturday, 13 April, our five Lourdes volunteers, Nathan Reynolds, Emmet Ronan, Ellie Jameson, Aoibhe Mitchell and Caitlin Power, attended a training day for their upcoming pilgrimage in Blackrock College. On the day, the students met volunteers from 28 other schools from the Dublin Diocese who will be travelling with them in September.

A very enjoyable day was had by all - from a manual handling course to an overview of the duties the students will undertake in Lourdes. Students also heard about the history of this place of pilgrimage and engaged in a reflective meditation and prayer service. There were photo collages of the September 2023 pilgrimage shown and everyone thoroughly enjoyed seeing photographs of the Sixth year girls in action in Lourdes earlier this academic year.

Thank you so much to the students for their attendance and participation in this very worthwhile orientation day. It has made us all even more excited for our trip in September.

EPAS - European Parliament Ambassador School Programme.

Well done to our EPAS Ambassadors who met with Cathyanne on Monday, 15 April, on Zoom to talk about CCM's involvement with the EPAS Programme. The scheduled meeting is an essential part of the programme to ensure we maintain our status as an EPAS school. The meeting requires students to talk about different aspects they have been involved with throughout the year and to answer questions from Cathyanne.

CCM Ambassadors spoke confidently about the TY module and EPAS workbook, their work with the EPAS info point, proposed new information signs for around the school, plans for the upcoming Europe Day and the recent Model EU event.

The committee will now be working towards preparing for Europe Day on May 9th with an eye on the European elections.

Thank you to Cathyanne for meeting with us and supporting us throughout the year.

National Concert Hall

Last Tuesday, 16 April, Leaving Certificate music students travelled to the National Concert Hall in Dublin. There, they were guided through a step-by-step approach to their set work - Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. Key themes and sections were highlighted and presented with musical illustrations. Students were involved in experiencing some romantic composition techniques by clapping syncopated percussion lines. The concert concluded with a full orchestral performance of the work by the National Symphony Orchestra.

Ultimate Frisbee

On Thursday, 18 April, the Ultimate Frisbee team went to our last event of the year- a blitz hosted by Gonzaga and Dublin Youth Ultimate. We brought a record-breaking 80 students who played in surprisingly beautiful weather for their first outdoors blitz.

CCM teams played 24 games over the course of the day, racking up 17 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses. They fought for every disc which got caught in the wind, kept their heads up on defence and showed much improved patience when handling the disc. The speed we saw from many, chasing down long throws and showing pitch awareness, particularly when on defence, will really stand to them coming into the season next year.

MVPs for the 8 teams on the day were: Holly Doyle, Ellen McCarthy, Eoin Lawlor, Odion Otoikhila, Samuel Adekunle, Oscar Dunne, Taras Ivanets and Keenan O'Shea.
