On the 10th September 2018, all Transition Year students from Colaiste Chill Mhantain travelled to the 2018 School Summit in Dublin, where they attended a number of presentations covering the areas of mental health, physical health, as well as listened to presentations which focused on different areas of employment. A sample of the talks and presentations on offer included: Jason King from 'Get Ireland Walking' where he spoke about the physical and psychological benefits of exercise; Stuart Murphy the ‘HR Manager’ from ‘ABP Ireland & Poland Group’ who spoke about the apprenticeship opportunities with his company; Aoife Sheehy, the technical research & development officer for ‘FIT’, where she spoke about the 'New Tech Apprenticeship Scheme'; Aidan Flynn from 'The Freight Transport Association of Ireland' who spoke about the 'Logistics Associate Apprenticeship Scheme'; Keith Kavanagh from the ESB who presented on 'Promoting Gender Balance in Technical Apprenticeships'; Shane Beirne from the 'Irish Medtech Association' who informed the students about the new 'Manufacturing Apprenticeship & Polymer Technology Apprenticeship'; & Michelle Coyne from the I.A.C.P. who spoke about 'Counselling as a career'. The students were accompanied on the trip by the schools guidance department and portfolio teachers.
