First Year Hike 2022
As part of our induction programme in CCM last Friday the First Year students, with their Year Heads, Tutors and Mentors were brought on a hike in Glendalough. Our experienced guide Mr McInerney led the group along the well-known Miners Walk/Green Road. The group, all 160 of them set off from the visitor centre at 11am. The group were blessed with the weather and spirits were high; Mr McInerney was finding it hard to hold back the students to the front of the group while those at the back put in a call for a break and the group stopped for a breather half way through before descending down towards the Upper lake. The views were spectacular and the group stopped again to admire the lake from a height. By the time they got down to the lake the students enjoyed it up close and took some photos, moving on then to the picnic area for lunch. After this the group walked back to their starting point on the boardwalk and again enjoyed the views of the famous Round Tower and St Kevin's Church ruins as well as a bonus glimpse of a wild deer who strayed past close by. Overall it was a great day and after two years of a pause due to Covid it was great to be able to do this bonding activity again. A big thank you to the First Years, Ms Smith, their Year Heads, the tutor team and SNAs their efforts to make this happen. Finally and of course to Mr McInerney who kept us going throughout and led from the front!
