ACADEMIC AWARDS CEREMONY

On Thursday, 19 January, First and Second Year students received academic awards for excellence in their Christmas Examinations. To mark the occasion, students received a certificate and had their photographs taken by Tim Thornton which will be sent home to celebrate their achievement. This was a lovely occasion to recognise and reward those students who have excelled in a particular subject. Many thanks to Ms Thornton for coordinating the distribution of these academic awards and to the Deputy Principals for their work on this positive recognition of excellence in examinations.

BIFE VISIT
On Friday, 20 January, seventy senior cycle students attended the Bray Institute of Further Education College Open Day, along with members of the school's guidance department. A sincere thank you to KWETB and BIFE Management, and in particular to BIFE staff member Naomi Kidd, for organising & providing transport for the CCM students to and from the event.
On the open day, CCM students had the opportunity to attend a variety of career and course-focused talks, covering a wide range of topics. Students also had the opportunity to visit and view the college facilities such as the fashion design rooms and the film and sound production facilities.
Attendance at this open day was a great opportunity for the students to learn about courses that would lead them into direct employment opportunities, as well as learn about the progression opportunities from many of BIFE's courses.
GARDA VISIT
On Monday, 23 January, Garda Niall Kennedy visited the school to speak to LCA students about their Contemporary Issues Task which focuses on social issues in Ireland today. Niall discussed issues in Wicklow and Ireland such as drinking, social media and vandalism and gave great insight into how to look after ourselves and others.
TY DRUMMING WORKSHOP
All TY students took part in a drumming and dance workshop last Tuesday and Wednesday, 24 & 25 January. Students had their rhythm tested as David instructed them on the basics of Jabba Jabba Jembe drumming. The students were very quick to pick up on the basics and took no time at all to be involved with all types of percussion instruments. Godfrey introduced them to some Zumba dance moves also. All students really enjoyed and engaged well with these workshops and the instructors were very impressed with their behaviour and cooperation.
TY FORENSIC SCIENCE WORKSHOP
On Thursday, 26 January, all Transition Year students took part in a Forensic Science Workshop. Throughout the day, the students explored different conspiracy theories about John F Kennedy’s assassination. They engaged in a variety of activities such as fingerprinting, gunshot residue testing, autopsy analysis and a VR experience. Thank you to Alison and Pat from Forensic Fun for a very enjoyable workshop!

Well done to the LCA students on their art exhibition on Thursday, 26 January, as part of their General Education task. Students researched and painted a range of well-known paintings showing a variety of techniques and skills. It was great to see so many staff and students come to see the work and speak to the LCA class about their paintings.
Well done to all the students for their hard work in organising such a successful morning.

FIRST YEAR BOYS' FOOTBALL
On Friday, 20 January, our First year boys played Dunlavin in the First Year GAA Competition. Both sides were coming in off the back of good wins in this competition.
CCM was slow to start and we were one point down when Dunlavin was awarded a penalty. Evan Lawlor, who was outstanding on the day, saved well and CCM kicked into gear scoring the next 4-4.
Goals and points from Toby Salley, Daniel Murphy and Harry Buttler put CCM in a strong halftime lead. Some excellent defensive work from PJ Lane, Ollie Quinn and Jack Murphy sent CCM on their way in the second half.
All twenty-three players played a minimum of twenty minutes each in what was a great performance, with exceptional contributions from Sean O'Brien, Evan Lawlor, Toby Salley, Thomas Kehoe and Harry Butler. These lads now have 3/3 wins in this competition.

UNDER 15 SOCCER
The Under 15 soccer team played Pobail Osraí in Kilkenny on Monday, 23 January. The team played well in a tough game. Jack Nolan gave us the lead in the first half with a long-range shot. Daniel Mitchell doubled the lead with a well-taken penalty. The game was in the balance after half time and we conceded a goal. Shane O'Reilly scored a long-range goal to give CCM some control over the game and then, with the team under pressure, Jack O'Leary and NJ Sinnott scored two good goals to help win the game.

SENIOR HURLING
On Tuesday, 24 January, CCM scored an impressive win over Bunclody VC in a high-scoring game in Rathnew. Emmet Ronan, Joe Culleton and Andrew Lynch were outstanding in defence and midfield, while Ciaran Matthews and Senan O’Donovan also put in their customary excellent displays. Michael Óg O'Neill and Lorcan Byrne did most of the scoring, while Billy Bannon also contributed a goal. It was a very strong team performance overall against a Bunclody side that battled right to the end despite being severely outmatched on the scoreboard. CCM will meet tougher opposition as we go on to play the next group winners in the South Leinster championship. Thanks to Rathnew GAA for use of their wonderful facilities and Eddie Leonard for refereeing.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE TOURNAMENT
On Tuesday, 24 January, the TY and 3rd Year Ultimate Frisbee players travelled to the National Indoor Arena in Dublin to play in the Youth Dublin Ultimate mixer tournament. This means that two CCM students were teamed up with 6 others from different schools and they all competed against each other. Our students were spread over 12 teams, two of which were undefeated on the day. The students on those teams were Eoghan Levins, Bhailie John Thomson, Ricardo Whelan and Ailbhe Kelly. All matches were scored for their sportsmanship, with Team 9 winning the overall prize. Toby Murphy and Lucy Hindle were on this winning team and were delighted to bring home a new disc!

JUNIOR GAA
On Thursday, 26 January, our Junior GAA footballers travelled to Bridgetown in Wexford to battle for a place in the South Leinster quarter-final. Our players took a foothold in the game with Ciarán Matthews providing 1-2 from wing back, Lorcan Sinnott pulling the strings at half-forward and knocking over scores from frees and Brandon Battams converting two goals from the full forward line to leave CCM winning 3-6 to 0-2 at half time. In the second half, our defence held strong and goalkeeper Scott Elliott Doyle made some crucial saves to keep a clean sheet. Notable performers on the day were Emmet Ronan, Brendan Stone, Lorcan Byrne and Deon Fielding. All players were given game time and performed well. We look forward now to our quarter-final.
